Job Title: Estimator

Okerlund Consulting & Management has a position open in the Los Angeles area for an experienced Sr. Estimator.

Building great teams is what we do at OC&M, because from great teams come great results. OC&M provides oversight and management as an owner’s representative on design and construction projects, up and down the West Coast and Texas.

This position requires a full working knowledge of preconstruction activities including project planning; preliminary budgeting; conceptual estimating; quantity surveying and bidding of projects. This person must understand projects costs and schedules in order to bring a high quality level of service to our clients at the earliest phase of a project. Candidates must be client oriented with strong communication skills. This position requires full competency in estimating, from conceptual to completed drawing stages. Must possess strong relationships within the subcontracting community. Shall perform detailed scope reviews with the subs and project teams prior to award, and to then buy-out the subcontracts and to establish the schedule of values and finally, the issuance of the subcontract agreements.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in partnership with the project managers to plan the job prior to project initiation i.e. general conditions study, procurement schedule, logistics, etc.
  •  Conducts reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities
  • Once project design commences, this person will work with the entire team from the General Contractor, Design team and end users to monitor costs and ensure the design meets the project budget parameters.
  • Maintain a full and current understanding of project documents.
  • Coordinate with qualified subcontractor and other vendors.
  • Ensure that the best qualified bids are obtained for each trade.
  • Participate in the Development and execute preconstruction milestones on the project schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Team and Purchasing in set up of projects.
  • Present information and proposals effectively to clients based on their needs and preferences
  • Maintain and develop relationships to reinforce a commitment to world class customer service across the board (including co-workers, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and the design community.)
  • Exceed client expectations through an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction, accurate estimates, constructive and effective communication and an attention to detail that result in top notch project outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain historical cost data

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have proven experience working in a fast-paced, energetic environment while producing detailed, accurate estimates on multiple and varied projects.
  • Possess excellent listening skills and have strong communication skills
  • Have a strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.
  • 4+ years’ experience in construction estimating.
  • Vast knowledge of all trades; scope, time frames, typical missed scope…
  • Understand MEP systems and components.
  • Solid conceptual estimating experience.
